Welcome to Diving Scapa Flow

Diving Scapa Flow was added to this site to give you an idea of the considerable facilities on the doorstep of the island of Hoy. These dive boats often call in at Lyness and would suit anybody staying at The Hoy Hotel.

Scapa Flow is acknowledged as the only site in the world where the remains of the 1st World War German Fleet now rests. The crystal clear waters makes this an ideal dive and the updated fleet of specialist boats now carry mixed gasses, which enable longer dives at deeper depths. If you have never worked with mixed gasses or re-breather systems and are interested in diving Scapa flow, then skippers Steve Mowat and John Thornton come highly recommended.

Steve’s boat, “Triton” is an extremely well equipped and maintained 58ft vessel. Facilities include heated changing room, large saloon with amenities for hot drinks and snacks, six birth cabin plus storage hold, shower and toilet, two radars, two VHF sets – including private ship to shore channel - two colour sounders including terrestrial and satellite links to a colour plotter. Nitrox is carried for those who are qualified to pump it.

Services provided free of charge include air, cylinders, weights, hot drinks etc. Steve  has two compressors, on board a 15 cubic foot Bauer, and another that is shore based.

Steve is a full LSA and BOT qualified skipper and enjoys a reputation for enabling divers to get the most from their Scapa Flow diving experience. Steve can be contacted through his web site or e-mailing steve@triton.force9.co.uk

John is an IANTD Trimix & Nitrox Instructor, he also holds a HSE Commercial Diving Ticket and a DTI Approved Skippers Ticket. On-board courses are available.

With over twenty years experience both as a skipper and diver, John is one of the most experienced and highly qualified skippers working in Scapa Flow. He was one of the first skippers to offer dive charters in the area and has progressively moved on to larger, better equipped boats.

John took part in Project Britannic in Greece in November 97.

You can contact John through his website or e-mail him at john@scapaflow.com
